We at Turner San Francisco are excited to announce the launch of a new accelerator, Media Camp Academy, exclusive to startups and entrepreneurs focused on media-related technologies. We’ve been working hard over the last 6 months to lay the foundation for this one-of-a-kind program–setting up our new digs in downtown San Francisco, tapping into our networks to find experts in the media and technology worlds, and preparing for our public launch at SXSW. Why are we doing this?
From our past experience in the media industry, we observed that startups have tremendous hurdles to overcome when doing business with media companies. This includes the lack of understanding of business operations in a media company, no prior knowledge of selling into a media company, and lack of connections with executives in media companies. There are giant gaps in the process and more importantly a missing link between Silicon Valley and the media/entertainment industry. There is no accelerator in existence 100% dedicated to this and backed by a media business, so we decided to step in and lead the charge.
We’re inviting five early-stage companies focused on the media space to participate in an intensive 12-week mentorship program led by Turner Broadcasting executives and media industry veterans in a way that cannot be experienced elsewhere. This program will be held in San Francisco with sessions and discussions covering basic startup fundamentals and focused on advanced media business and technology trends.
Applications are now open for the Summer 2012 inaugural class. We can’t wait to hear all of your innovative new ideas!
